Train Tickets into Mona Lisa.

Mona Lisa made from train tickets --

Employees at the Takashimaya department store in Osaka have created four reproductions of world-famous paintings using 320,000 old train tickets obtained from the nearby Nankai Namba station. The works, which include renditions of da Vinci’s Mona Lisa (2.3 x 1.6 meters) and the Birth of Venus, as well as Renoir’s Dance at the Moulin de la Galette, consist of “pixels” formed by overlapping the black and white tickets in intricate patterns. About 300 employees sacrificed their breaks and free time for 3 months to complete the masterpieces, which will be on display at Takashimaya until October 16. Link

CD Furnitures!

Blank CDs are on their way out as a day to day storage medium, and by the looks of things they don’t make for a very comfortable chair either. The inexplicably titled “Panda Chair” was designed by Belen Hermosa using hundreds of disks lined in rows. It may be uncomfortable, but I suppose lying on a bed of flash drives wouldn’t be so hot either. [Designboom]

Treehugger has put together a fun roundup of bikes with reel mowers bolted onto the fronts of them. Not sure how effective this is as a mower, or rideable as a bike — this might be more Chindogu than workable hack. Has anyone made and/or ridden one of these?

If having alien permanently crouched on your carpet turns you on, you shall be thankful for the unintentional ergonomics of the design, but you shall need some serious cash to get one of these bad-boys state side. Prices range from approx. $124 – $4,500, depending on what you opt for. Chairs, coffee tables, stools and coat racks are all available. As the manufacturer is based in the UK, postage shall probably be vast, but if you are dropping $4,500 on a coffee table that probably is not such an issue. Bornrich has an extensive gallery, be sure to hit the link to check it all out. Link
